This is Destiny

Sometimes the universe gives you an in your face, can’t ignore it if you tried sign. But many times it’s a whisper, a little tap on your shoulder, an odd coincidence, a tiny little nudge in a certain direction…Destiny will be 42 in a few weeks and is the founder, owner and operator of GymGo Kids!

After many years of running and growing successful child care and gymnastics centers Destiny has now taken her wealth of knowledge, skills, love of children and enthusiasm to open her own independent business GymGo Kids! GymGo Kids is a mobile enrichment program the provides professional gymnastics, dance and cheer instruction for any age.

Initially she had wanted to buy into the established franchise where she worked for over nine years and open her own gym. She also looked into buying into other newer franchises before making her brave leap into independent entrepreneurship.

In her own words…

“It’s always been scary to me, I will say I have been apprehensive about the responsibility. Even now, I still can’t believe that I ended up doing it by myself, because I felt like I’ve always wanted a partner or somebody to bounce ideas off of and not have to have the whole responsibility. “It’s always been scary to me, I will say I have been apprehensive about the responsibility. Even now, I still can’t believe that I ended up doing it by myself, because I felt like I’ve always wanted a partner or somebody to bounce ideas off of and not have to have the whole responsibility.

I kind of always wanted to have a business but our parents grew up in the generation of you go to school, get a good job, with benefits. So that’s what my mom knows, going to work getting a job with benefits. My mom retired from AT&T after working there for like 35 years. People don’t do that anymore, companies don’t keep people that long.

I worked for AT&T for a little bit and got laid off during the last recession. That kind of sparked the entrepreneurship in me a little bit but I just never was brave enough to to step out there and do it.

My kid’s father is the one that really pushed me into because I wanted to have my own The Little Gym. At The Little Gym not being able to grow anymore, I did all that I could do there besides own it. He was like so why would you pay them money to do their idea when your ideas are just as great you can do everything they did. The other franchises that I was looking into buying into, aren’t really known like that in Georgia. He was like, it would be you making their name right? So make your own name.

I also kind of got pushed into it because there was supposed to be a party at the gym that was accidentally scheduled for Easter Sunday. A mom booked it and didn’t want to cancel it. I ended up telling her, I can come do your party, right at your home. That was my first event! I ended up buying my equipment after that. I kind of just took everything that people have been wanting and needed that they didn’t offer that I could do and ran with it.

Another thing I will say that pushed me to be okay with it is that I’m fully mobile. I’ve been told a great way to have a business is to help people’s needs, whatever problems they have solve them. Kids need to be active. Now being a newly single parent knowing there’s only so many hours in the day for me to take those this one to lacrosse, take this one the cheerleading, this one got a concert. To be able to either bring that joy to the kids houses or do it while they’re at school, they still get that enrichment, that time and energy without the parents having to sacrifice for it.

I’ve been trying to correct myself because people are like, Oh, you’re doing your own business. I’m like, I’m trying and a friend said , you’re not trying, you’re doing this right now. And I was like, I guess? Because I just can’t see it. I’m trying. I’m trying but yeah, it’s full fledged GO. “

GymGo Kids officially opened its “doors” in the summer of 2022 and is growing so much that Destiny is now hiring new part time instructors! Her daughters are by her side as she paves the way for the next generation of strong, brave women!  https://gymgokids.com
